On 1 July 2024 the national minimum wage decision made on 3 June 2024 took effect.  This resulted in a 3.75 percentage increase to the minimum wage (now $915.90 week/ $24.10 per hour).  The same increase applies to minimum wage rates in modern awards.

On 1 July 2024 the income threshold in relation to unfair dismissal claims increased to $175,000.  In order to be eligible to make an unfair dismissal claim, an employee who is dismissed on or after 1 July 2024 must earn under the income threshold (not including superannuation) and  have been employed for more than the relevant period of employment (12 months if the employer has fewer than 15 employees at the time of the dismissal, 6 months where the employer has15 or more employees at the time of the dismissal).  An employee who earns more than the income threshold will nevertheless be eligible to make an unfair dismissal claim if their employment is covered by a modern award and there is no guarantee of annual earnings.
