On 16 February 2023 Elizabeth Devine presented a paper on the topic of ‘Flexible Working Arrangements: A Non-Negotiable in the Modern Workplace’ for the Television Education Network. Elizabeth began the presentation by explaining the social and legal framework in which the trend toward flexible working (which began around 30 years ago) operates and the many different types of flexible work arrangements. She then discussed the current workplace regulation of flexible working arrangements and the imminent changes to it (in June 2023). Elizabeth then examined on what basis employers might require an employee to work in a particular place, explored what employers need to bear in mind when managing overtime and provided practical tips on how employers and employees can further develop their approach to flexible working.
